What should I read during my time off from school?

(One of these days, I'll do some updating of this journal, but for now.....)

Just over 3 years ago, I started keeping a couple of running lists related to Books.  One is “Books I’ve Read”, making notes about books I should re-read in some distant future and ones to avoid recommending to anyone.  The other list is “Books To Read When I Have Spare ( Read more... )

If you haven't already read Lamb, by Christopher Moore, I think you'd love it. If you have, let me know and I'll give you another suggestion!

Thanks, Gina! Lamb is one of 3 books I read all of last year... I read that and Dirty Job before school started again. I love his books. I've got "You Suck", but should probably read the one before it first (Blood Sucking Fiends?)

Any other Christopher Moore books you'd recommend?

I have liked all of Christopher Moore's books. Maybe Coyote Blue, or the Island of the Sequined Love Nun? They're all great.

I'm having some serious deja vu... I'm so sorry if we've had this conversation before and I've forgotten.

If you like Chris Moore, you'd probably also like Tom Robbins (my friend sexychicken and I refer to Moore as "Tom Robbins Lite" because it's that same witty surrealism but Robbins tends to get all intellectual and push a lot of his crunchy granola hippie ideals on you. :). My favorite of his is Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas (it's written in second person!), but all of them are good. Maybe you'd like Even Cowgirls Get the Blues.

Oh, also, you can enjoy You Suck without having read Bloodsucking Fiends, but it is nice to read them in order. :)

If you haven't read Wuthering Heights before or it's been awhile it is a great romance that you can't help but be haunted by.

i'm sure you've read these, but they're definitely worth another recommendation!!

The shadow and the wind
water for elephants

if you're looking for quick, mindless ones, i've got a few of those as well. there's a murder/mystery series where the main character is a musher in the Iditerod (?), which are fairly predictible, but you get some good history on Alaska and tidbits about dog sledding.

i read the twilight books as well. they were good, for "tween" type books.

i read a lot but haven't read anything fantastic in a long time. if i do, i'll let you know.
