The cars do look like toys, themselves, from that aerial shot. I think I even see an early-70s Lancia Fulvia between a couple of silver-blue Ferraris: I don't think Lancias were ever sold in the US.
My first accident was similar to the one with the Porsche: an SUV made a left turn in front of me & I t-boned them at 45MPH with such force & at such an angle the SUV got flipped. It was more of an offset collision for me as the right front corner (including frame) got it more than the rest of the car. That was 9 years ago. At least in the case with the Porsche, the engine is at the other end of the vehcle.
You know your saturn held up well ;-) yes, I agree the Countach is the epitome of 80's materialism.. You should have seen the owner who was driving it.. he had to raise the door to look out behind it to park it.. A lot of work for a car IMO.
