Tonight's gig...

I thought our performance tonight as a band was very promising. Okay, there were mistakes but they can be put right, and some can be put down to something that I'll come to in a minute. As a band I thought we were really good, I thought Steve showed flair and passion like I've never seen before, I thought Rich was brilliant with his basslines and ( Read more... )

if the night had been organised properly, you'd have had time to be shown the amp you were using properly before soundchecking. using unfamiliar equipment only causes problems that are easily solved. i only remember having similar problems with an amp once, and that was because no one had time to show me it. usually, it's a good idea to keep unfamiliar amps clean and use your own effects anyway, simply because that way you should get exactly the sound you want.

by the way, if it's any consolation, i only spent £1 in the pub, on a Coke. when the barperson asked me if i wanted ice and lemon, i said no. she put them in anyway.

They used to be amenable to that with effects and stuff but not anymore! The last time I played I went complete with effects and they said no way which caused a bit of displeasure. Not good. I too only spent £1, lol.

not letting you use effects is a bit stupid really. though i suppose it probably wouldn't be bluesy enough...

I have to say the perfomance last nite was awesome even with all the problems caused by the house band.

as for the houseband, I think they're problem is that if its not Blues they don't want to know, perhaps if you were 20 years older, and played half hour guitar solo's they would appreciate you more, but as it stands I think the Maverick is somewhere Last man standing should give a miss.

Win mentioned this last night. HOw about a set at Chicago's up town, apparently on quiet nites they let bands play.

keep on rocking

Thank you! We have other venues lined up, I've got a few people I need to speak to regarding support slots, etc. Thank you for coming, and thank you for saying it was awesome, it really does mean a lot :-)

Arses! If I'd been there I wouldn't have been very chuffed wiv them 4 bein like that. Blues fans? Urrrrgh. My dad's right into blues music and plays Peter Green, Robert Cray and John Mayall all the time. They're nowhere near as bad as buftys or teenyboppers but they can still be annoying (like me funnily enough!)
