There was another party last night, as there is almost every night.

Everybody's gone now, or almost. It's just Liam, sprawled out on the couch. He's quite possibly still drunk, and if he's not, he's hungover.

Someone's cooking in the kitchen.

She is not taking care not to make noise.

It's very hard to cook without making noise, in any case, even if she was trying.

Liam winces, then frowns in confusion, trying to peer into the kitchen without actually moving his head and failing.

"You didn't stay hydrated last night," Karen says in a no-nonsense tone.

"Did", he objects. "...before Matt got there."

Matt brought highly alcoholic drinks, and possibly less legal substances.
