[Misato was going to make a point to talk about port, but.... The moment's passed. ASSUME SHE GAVE AN AWESOME PEP TALK TO HER TEAM WHEN THEY TURNED UP NAKED. And then strolled off to find her clothes. And she's been avoiding talking to Laura, since SHE FEELS REALLY BAD THAT SHE DIED. And being the soldier that she is, working with a group of mostly ( Read more... )

And you can assume he ran off embarrassed before the pep talk was over alzarian_youth June 25 2010, 18:22:38 UTC
I don't think anyone's going to object to you investigating this, if you have some idea where to even start.

I figure it's just polite to make sure someone hasn't already made the attempt somewhere and I missed it. Plus, it's just protocol.

[LOOK. SHE'S ADDICTED TO PROCEDURE. IT'S LIKE CRACK.]

Right. I'm not used to protocol. The Doctor never followed it, after all.

[Teasingly.] After four days in the field with me, I'm surprised you aren't jumping at marching orders, soldier.

I was just about to post an inquiry regarding the fact that O'Brien seems to have been turned into a human Tesla coil. I fully support any investigation into the matter.

According to O'Brien, his electricity powers set in this morning at some point after breakfast. He claims to have experienced the sensation of having been "bitten" by something, but he seems vague on whether it actually happened or not, and without any visible marks or anything else to go on, that's as good as inconclusive.

And Captain Sexby's Inmate could heal earlier this week.

But it's something to go on. As many people who were affected, someone has to know something. How many Inmates benefited from having their powers restored, assuming these two things are connected? You'd think one of them could've struck a bargain with someone with that kind of power. And that's another thing- what even causes those reactions?

First things first: we need a comprehensive list of all inmates whose powers were restored, discounting any whose were restored at explicit warden request. We'll need to know if they had any unusual contacts before the event. And if anyone else acquires or re-acquires unexpected powers, perhaps a correlation can be drawn.

Working on it. Almost every incident had a corresponding post at the time, but no real way of knowing whether their Warden sprung it on them or if it was a surprise. The two I know for certain weren't Warden-influenced were Belthazor and Alastair- the former was put into a coma by a malfunction in whatever was used and the latter was the one who brought locusts to the Barge and tortured that girl.

I think an investigation is a good idea. You've got my total support.

Thank you, Dr. Jones. I'm going to try to keep this as far down the radar as I can to avoid startling any potential leads. I don't have many as it is, but I've had less before.

Depends on the favor and what I'll be getting in trade, but sure. Shoot.

How about the pleasure of kicking the guy who put you in a coma in the nads?

I need you to talk to the other Inmates who were affected at the same time you were, before the Wardens get to them. They're not going to respond if they think it's a Warden inquiry unless it's Captain Swing, but they seem to get pretty heady about dispensing their own brand of justice. You just happen to be the one guy I have who has a legitimate reason to find this bastard.

You think I can't accomplish that on my own time and dime? [A small snort.] Seriously. Give me some actual incentive.

... [Then offhandedly:] And I'd have to know who else was affected if I'm going to go knocking on doors.

They had to have picked candidates for a reason, Bel. Even if they picked you out of a hat, if this comes back and even half the people signed up for it, it's gonna reflect badly on you. And I know you want your powers back from your Warden. [She doesn't know that... She just assumes it. BECAUSE ALL INMATES WANT THEIR POWERS BACK. IT'S LIKE A RULE.]

I have a list.

Sorry to interrupt, but-Neil, if you speak to Elle anytime soon, I think I rather need her to talk to O'Brien. He appears to have acquired powers very like hers and he doesn't control them particularly well. As, I suppose, is only to be expected, since they're bloody well new to him and all.

Thanks. And no, he's been remarkably cooperative; he's staying put until it goes away or until someone comes up with a fix, whichever comes first. He did zap me when I went to talk to him, but it was an accident and I'm no worse the wear for it.
