I ran into a guy that I graduated with. He is putting his engineering degree to good use working for Exxon. I guess you have to start at the bottom because he is at the register. You can tell our economy is doing great when a degreed engineer is selling beer at a gas station to make a living.

i know a mechanical engineer and a future civil engineer both from UTSA. The graduate isnt using his degree in anything related to his field. The senior is searching for a future job in which to use his degree. ...how about that materials classes, labs, physics and Calculus 3 all for something other than what you studied. Your friend pushing the change back button on a register. sad. He would make more money and get benefits as a teacher if he was willing to deal with headstrong and hormone filled kids.

How is NISD treating you? Are you going to be able to get a full-time teaching job soon?

Hopefully, I have to pass a ridiculous test first. Getting a degree is never enough. You have to remember shit from over 5 yrs ago. heh

God, I thought it was only us arts students that had no chance of using our degrees to get real jobs. It's a sad world when smart science people can't get jobs. I hope he's really working out the vectors of that cash register, or whatever it is that engineers do.

Mostly, what I know about engineers, I know from Dilbert. :p

I thought that too, that's one of the reasons I choose engineering. I thought, "When society comes to an end what kind of people do we need to rebuild? Those are the people that should be able to get jobs since they are the ones that help society grow (in general). Doctors, (I wont be much help piled, unconscious, in the corner) Laborers, (I'm too much of a wuss to tar roofs when it's 110F outside) Engineers (let's give that a chance)." Alas, society has yet purged itself, so many engineers are out of jobs.

Sure, I may not be able to build a bridge, or keep a building from falling down, or even do hard sums. But, I'm super at watching tv and drinking alcohol. And, really, isn't that the sort of person that you'd want to be there at the bit just after the end of the world?

Wait...

Anyway, I'm totally in awe of engineers of all sorts. Way too smart for your own good.

You're making my film degree look like it was a really good idea.

Except for the debt... fuck.
