Poem: "Kindred Dreams"

Jun 23, 2013 20:40

This poem came out of the June 4, 2013 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was inspired by moonwolf1988.  It also fills the #10 Noctilucent slot in the Rainbowfic Moonlight list.  It is posted here in barter for the stories " First Feed," " Exploring Charlotte's Room," and " Talking to Anna" by kajones_writing.

Kindred Dreams

She is adept at silk magic
and determined to find a solution.
She has been searching
ever since her brother's carapace
was cracked by a careless charm.

She goes looking for materials
in the between-times,
predawn and deep twilight,
when the noctilucent clouds
shimmer overhead like a dancer's veils.

If the crepuscular races are surprised
to see a nocturnal person
up so early or out so late,
they look at the scarlet hourglass
on her abdomen and remain silent.

She seeks out the places
where her distant, mystical relatives
might hide their tunnels
and spin their kindred dreams.

She does not know if it is so,
only that it is said:

if you weave a dream web from shydersilk,
then your dream will come true.
