Poetry Fishbowl Report for Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Jan 06, 2010 16:16

This month's topic was "hard science fiction." The prompts for this fishbowl came as a steady trickle that lasted all day.  I was a little worried that they would run out early, but they didn't, and it worked out quite nicely.  I worked from noon to midnight; counting lunch and supper breaks, that's about 10 hours of active work.  I wrote 17 poems, mostly medium; there was just one epic and a few short poems.  Most of them were free verse, plus a few forms such as a sonnet and an indriso.

Strong participation this month brought prompts from 14 people, including new prompter fortunavirilis.  Welcome!  There were a total of 55 comments including mine.  Plenty of teamwork and some quick pouncing on favorite poems led to the posting of 6 poems during the actual fishbowl.  Several folks pimped the fishbowl on LiveJournal, Twitter, or other places -- thank you!

EDIT 1/15/10: Added more poems.

The following fishbowl poems have been posted:
"Brainwreck"
"Build a Better Fireman">
"Certified Oxymoronic">
"The Cybernaut"
"A Girl's Best Friend"
"Good as New"
"The Hourglass of Infinity"
"Ignition"
"The Octonaut"
"Radiant Matter"
"Those Who Were Made"
"What Makes the World Go 'Round"

All currently sponsored poems have been posted.  Copies of poems have been sent backchannel to their prompters.  I still need to write a donor perk-post.  There will be a generally sponsored poetry poll later.  Presently, the fund holds $10; there are two each of $5 and $10 poems left.  I'm going to hold off a little longer, though, because sometimes more money comes in and/or people sponsor more poems right after the fishbowl.

January's donors include: ellenmillion, miintikwa, newroticgirl, asakiyume, minor_architect, kestrels_nest, laffingkat, eveofdstruction, zianuray, and janetmiles. Thank you all for supporting this project. Please welcome first-time donors kestrels_nest, laffingkat, and eveofdstruction.  Woohoo!

If you haven't already heard about this, check out the new Rose and Bay Awards for excellence in cyberfunded creativity. The categories are Art, Fiction, Poetry, Other Project, and Patron. For the 2010 round of awards, the Poetry Fishbowl project has been nominated in the Poetry Category and three fishbowl donors have been nominated in the Patron category. Tuesday's activity just qualified the Poetry Fishbowl for next year, and all you donors now have a shot at Patron, assuming the Rose and Bay Awards continue annually as intended. Nominations remain open January 1-31 for projects or patrons active in 2009; voting will commence February 1-28; so go nominate your other favorites.

The Poetry Fishbowl project also has a permanent landing page.
