I'm in Pinawa, Manitoba, visiting my mom and dad.
I'm currently in bed with about 185 pounds of mutt draped over my legs. It's lovely. He snores. I'm planning at least one expedition into Winnipeg. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I met my physical therapist today. Her name is Sylvestra, and she seems to be intelligent, knowledgable, and she's courteous enough to be amused when I say something silly. In fact, I think we will get along swimmingly. We did talk about adding water therapy...

I knocked over a glass of water in my living room. It was a full, large glass, and water went all over the carpet. So, I spread a bath towel to sop the water up. Makes sense, right? But Brisco is *completely* freaked out by the towel on the floor. He's zooming all around, his eyes are huge, he's biting it and running away - it's a pretty amazing ( Read more... )

I used to think a muscle relaxant was a muscle relaxant. Pretty much all the same thing. I thought, hey, I have a bunch left of the ones my neurologist prescribed, I'll finish them off *then* take the ones my GP changed them out for. Why not? They're all the same.

Three of three infusions done. Hooray for that being over. And I think it's helping. So an even bigger hooray for that! Tomorrow I start a course of oral steroids to "taper down".
Now, I'm *beat*, so time to lie down.

Two of three infusions done. Everything tastes tinny and weird, except ginger ale, which tastes normal. So, sipping a ginger ale and hoping for a nap before my parents arrive. My vision needs to clear up pronto - we're going to the Jets/Blackhawks game on Thursday and I want to be able to see it!

It was much better than I had feared. The area isn't hospital-ish, really. It was calm and quiet and didn't smell like a hospital. The only beeping was when the nurse doing my IV was adjusting the machine; it beeped at her, and she told it, "Shush!" I got to choose either to sit in a chair, or to recline on a bed. Today, tomorrow, and Wednesday, I am scheduled for infusions at 2:00 in the outpatient clinic at the hospital. I keep telling myself, "It's just an IV. I've had *lots* of those, nothing to worry about." It's kind of working. :)

As things have played out so far: nothing today but hurry up and wait. It looks like I'll be having 3-4 steroid infusions over the course of 3-4 consecutive days, which will hopefully start on Monday. Couldn't start today because I guess steroids don't work on weekends. Or something.

Heard from my neurologist's office. The MRI showed "new activity" on my optic nerve, which means yes, this is an MS flare-up. Treatment is steroids, either oral or intravenous, my choice. I chose IV, since it works faster and pills didn't seem to do anything last time. It's outpatient, 3 or 4 days in a row. I should hear from the infusion clinic ( Read more... )
