Who was it that invented the heart shape? Who decided the heart was the symbol of love? Who took a nasty looking oddly shaped organ and turned it into the most sought after thing in this world?

well, now that alex has left his thorough and disturbing response mine seems paltry. i was just going to say that the heart is essentially the organ that keeps us going biologically, just as love is sort of what keeps us going emotionally/spiritually. also the relation of blood to passion and life and the hearts relation to that and whatnot and whatever
