The grotesquely intimidating thing about email that I will never be able to shake is the profundity of the "no takes back" element.  Hit send and it's gone...shit...too late now to think better of your impetuous decision, you're locked into it now...

I guess I think about it as no different from that moment when you tip a letter into the mail box at the corner. Sure it take longer (especially if you can't find your stamps) but it's really just as final at that moment.

Even speaking aloud is just as final. There are really "no take backs" in most forms of communication. The trouble with speaking and with email is that you can put it out there before your better judgment has time to put in a stop-notice. At least writing a physical letter takes a certain amount of time.
