I hope you are not offended by my saying this but your mom is a little odd. I would think her first obligation would be to protect you from a strange guy - not make sure you're polite to him.

So glad you're going on your trip - how fun!

I definitely think my mom shouldn't have lied to me. If she talks about being nice to people, that includes being honest with them. I just pictured a similar situation in a movie or with a best friend - normally if someone doesn't want to talk to the guy on the phone, you would normally help them out... Right?
