鸩 (Zhen) is loosely translated to "Poisonfeather Bird", which is a name give to poisonous birds that is said to have existed in what is now present-day Southern China. The poison on these birds are said to be so deadly that simply passing it through one's throat is sufficient to kill a person, and their excretion could even dissolve hard rocks.
