You might not be able to do it with a SYMBOLIC link because this user probably doesn't have access to follow that link into your home.

You can probably do it with a hard link...

Okay, that is definitely one level of problem I'm having. Though I think there may be yet another level.

I've never used a hardlink...can you explain to me how it's different?

A symbolic link from /home/monkey/f.txt to /home/z111/o.txt has the OS responding by doing "oh, the dude wants f.txt? Lemme just go open /home/z111/o.txt" but that means the person has to have rights to open that file.

A hard link actually creates a duplicate entry in the file allocation table. It is the same file. And, fooey, I don't think you can hard link a directory after all. You can hard link a specific file, though I realize that may not be enough.

Well, I got a for-now solution but the underlying problem isn't at all resolved. Why on earth my hosting provider puts all domains under my home dir is beyond me. :-(

Anyway, I mailed tech support.

I'm so obviously not awake yet because I read this and my first thought was, "oh, wow, he's got the coolest middle name."

No, I have not yet had my coffee.
