Yup - After multiple failed attempts I tried doing the import *without* comments and it finally worked. Kinda sucks because many times the conversation in the comments is more important than the post itself, but better than nothing. And I'll still work on the Word doc so I can hopefully save the discussions worth saving.
I'm hoping that nothing will happen because LJ isn't important or popular enough to matter. But if Russia acts like China, then it might be a different story.
We're still here so you might be right! I've got my fingers crossed that some FSB agent will "rescue" his nation from its current president before they are truly isolated from the rest of the world.
