In SSE, I'm having the best luck with Ike and Ganondorf, oddly enough. The AI is decent about avoiding your smash attacks, but less so with the standards, and those two have the power to really put the hurt on even with just standards. Some of the normal enemies give me major problems with lightweight characters (e.g. the flower face thing on a Hanoi tower, or the lance tank) but are much more manageable with heavies. Which isn't to say I've had much luck with Dedede, though I'm still getting to know his attacks.

Ike isn't really a Marth clone; his moveset has significant differences. They're just both sword-wielding characters from the same series.

I think the hookshot recoveries have more range than most third-jump recoveries do, which means that they're more useful for getting back to the stage, if less useful for general locomotion. Since the AI pounds me whenever I use a third jump offensively, I've stopped using them except when I absolutely have to.

It took me way too long to start recognizing the smart bomb. ¬.¬

Also, personally I like ROB. He has excellent standard moves and reasonably useful specials, including some awesome recovery and aerials that move you.

Also, two of the three times I've gotten the golden hammer, it's been the squeaky version. The one time the AI got it, it was squeaky. I don't trust the golden hammer any more; you're basically dead if you get it and it's squeaky, because the effect lasts for ages.

I've seen the golden hammer once- it popped up in one of the shadow fights. Definately not squeaky, and it killed me (although I _almost_ got the opportunity to upthrust kill it). Then a hammer popped over on my side. Easy kill.

Most amusing hammer situation so far- first time Snake joins, the immediate item pop was a hammer that lost the head. So I wait, and then Snake sneaks through the level with a hammer head in one hand, throwing it at enemies one at a time and instakilling them. I find I immediately go into "slow and sneaky" mode with Snake, which really isn't conducive to multiplayer brawls.

Playing with some friends, we'd satisfied the conditions to unlock Marth in brawl mode but had failed to defeat him twice...the third time, I got sent in as Peach against him and things were going poorly until a hammer literally spawned right on top of me. The fight didn't last long after that.

I haven't mastered most of the new characters, but I'm liking Pit the most. He plays a lot like Link, but probably has greater versatility; his special moves are basically close-range pwnage, long range attack, counter-reflect, and "screw you guys, I'm outta here!". Incidentally, I love the wings, and occasionally use them to go under levels to position myself.

I've gotten OK with Snake. The trick with him is that you need to give yourself some space. His only good fast moves are the frontflip and the basic punch-kick combo.

My brief experience with wifi play is that it lags a lot, which is pretty annoying in such a fast-paced game. I don't know if my connection just sucks, other people's connections suck, or Nintendo needs to fix something. I don't think its our house connection because I haven't seen this problem in Super Mario Strikers or in any of the XBox games my housemates play.
