Fear

"Admitting you have a fear is the first step in conquering that fear." A school friend of mine would tell me this before I'd have to give a speech in class. We'd giggle at the play on the 12 step program adage & that'd actually be my first step in relaxing enough to not get the nervous sweats before standing in front of 20 judgmental teenagers. Awww thank you! 10 outta 10 times actually doing something that seemed scary turned out to be nothing to worry about! That knowledge is one thing that has helped me be less afraid of jumping into new situations.

Being in comedy you just sort of have to give up any shame and leap into things. I'll sing, I'll dance, I'll do whatever to get a laugh. You've got the right idea to just leap into it!

Comedians have the secret to being unafraid. I know it. 😆 You got the brains that tell you to DO IT, JUST DO IT and people like me have the brain that says WHY DON'T YOU THINK OF 13 WAYS THIS CAN GO WRONG AND ASK ME AGAIN LATER IF YOU THINK IT'S STILL A GOOD IDEA.

The key is to just ignore that THIS WILL GO HORRIBLE voice and say so what if it does? Either way, you're hopefully getting a laugh out of someone. Also, it's a good cover for anxiety. Oh no, I'm not awkward in general, I'm just doing a bit.

Exactly! So what if it does? Has saying the wrong thing opened up the floor to swallow any of us whole? No, and it hasn't ended our careers either. I need to start treating my anxiety's like it's all for show. Do you ever look into a fake camera after you've goofed? 😀 That might help brush off the embarrassment!

Conquer your fears! There are so many things I've been afraid of in the past but I've gone ahead and jumped to do them. If you overthink it too much, you just feed the fear and end up stepping away. <3

What really gets me is that when I do jump in, I find out it's not bad at all. The water's fine! I ask myself why I was scared to begin with and the answers then seem so foolish!

I very much agree with exposure therapy, to an extent. There are fears we just can't overcome but there is so much we can do to grow as people. I try to be as fearless as possible. I don't always succeed, but I like to think I try.

Haha I don't think that I can do any exposure therapy that has me actually coming into contact with bugs. Just yikes. hskdfhjsd

No to the bugs. Some things should be left alone as a fear 😆

I know right?! I will straight up have a heart attack if I ever had to do any of those Fear Factor challenges where people had bugs fall on them or stick their hand in a bucket of bugs, yikes.

You definitely have to push back against that negative self talk. We're all so critical of ourselves when we are so much kinder to others. We are definitely all human and it's good to remember that that person in front of you is just as nervous at times.

That's a good point! We need to treat ourselves the way we treat others. We need to treat that inner voice like a friend and feed it positive energy otherwise they're not going to want to come over anymore. 😆
