Post college idea

Dec 01, 2005 13:02

Okay, so last night at dinner we were talking about who was going abroad and all that, and I mentioned that I was thinking of moving to either Ireland or Australia for a year or so and just getting some job there and living. Someone mentioned a different alternative, and I'm wondering what all you happy people think of it ( Read more... )

amazing. i like the idea of the s.pacific or africa. l.america's kinda cliche - lots of people go there. if you're truly being philanthropic about this though, then i say go for it. it'll be a life experience.

fitting music, too.

I'm more leaning towards the pacific...possibly s.e. asia, but I would only want to do thailand, and I don't know if that is really the area for me to live for two years.

Sadly, Tuvalu isn't offered as of now.

Some of it is for selfish reasons, of course. I mean, noone does anything without some kind of personal benefit. But I also want to do it for the philanthropic reasons...I mean, that is why I want to be a teacher in the frist place.

atleast I still have time to think about it.

I think that it is a brilliant idea. You'll, of course, get a looooooot out of it. You've got the passion, and even though I would hate not having you in the same geographical region as me, I think it would be really sweeet. definitely make you hotttttttttttterrrrrr

I think it's a good idea. I've been thinking about joining the Peace Corps myself upon leaving school.

However, it's not going to be a picnic. You have to keep in mind how hard it was for you just to go to Boston and be away from us those first few months...would you have the same difficulties when you left for your job? Would you be able to handle them? Of course, I would make sure to keep in contact with you in any way possible...it's not like any of us would forget about you.

On the other hand...could you imagine a more unique opportunity? I've always thought something like that is worth all the personal pain you may go through...overall, i think the rewards of the experience outweigh the discomforts.

So yeah, that's my two cents.

the things I've read about it so far say it is possibly the hardest thing you will ever do, but also one of the most rewarding.

I thought about how hard it was to come here...the way I look at it was that was my first time ever really leaving my comfort zone. I lived through it. Theres also the fact that I might not be able to get a job teaching in CT, and would have to leave anyway. I know it would be hard as all hell...but at the same time, the rewards seem to be amazing.

I think you would be amazing in the peace corps too.

As I said to Leah, still have time to think about it...I'm just looking into options.

haha...well, there is the chance of having electricity...although, with the places I'm looking at, not a huge chance...but hey, all the more reason for me to do a secondary project to get electricity or internet.

LG party over break is a must. I miss my guards.

I can TOTALLY see you in the Peace Corps. As far as the time goes, if there's any time you can just go away from 27 months, it's now. You have your whole life to settle down and do... you know, normal things. If you want to do this, I think you should just do it. If it doesn't work out, do you HAVE to stay the whole time? Not that you would quit, but if it really wasn't working, is that an option?

I think since it is volunteer work, you would have the opportunity to leave if you had to...I can't imagine they would really just keep you there if you wern't effective.

I figure, I want to see the world. It wouldn't make sense to wait till I have a career, and a family. This may be my best chance to really live somewhere else and see something new.
