My guess is someone has been throwing snowballs at him.

hehehehehe My brother and I used to do this. Only I'd wander off bored after ten minutes and he's have this huge fort built and stacks and stacks of snowball ammo. Then, when no interlopers came along for him to fight, he'd use me for target practice. Bah! I got him back in the summers by following he and his friends around and being a pest.
