Double standard anyone?

It's weird how I always assume, when I see a pretty young girl in an expensive car, that she probably has sugar daddy, or comes from money. Rarely I surmise this about young guys. I usually think, they may look young, or they worked in Google and have lots of company shares, or that they come from money and it's not normal, i don't look down on ( Read more... )

Where I live, it depends on who they are. Almost anyone under the age of 25 with blonde hair driving a sporty car is almost certain to be a spoiled student at one of the many local universities.

Beyond that, our town (Austin) is chock full o' independent women happy to flaunt their hard-earned wealth. They're still mostly just as snotty and rude (and not much better drivers) than their younger school-going counterparts, though.

Same here. While I don't make the assumption that young girls didn't earn their wealth, I do always make the (mostly correct) assumption that they're not very nice people.

Aha! you too are guilty of assumptions. I too tend to think women are worse drivers than men, although my wife proved me wrong on numerous occasions. (that's why she is my wife) ;))

I figure people who drive expensive cars are usually living wayyy beyond their means.

I second that.

not always. Imagine you make 2-3 million a year, then $100,000 car isn't that expensive after all.

I dunno about cars but I am convinced that the only people who have big screen t.v.s are those who really can't afford it.

Oh yeah, it's stupid. But I think the point is that the assumption is so engrained into our culture, a lot of us don't even realize when we're making it.

I don't normally even think about it. I think I do assume that people have equally earned or come by their wealth, whether male or female, partly because it just doesn't matter to me. The way they act is more important, how they treat other people.

I'm not saying I'm perfect, I have my other flaws, but... This perspective of mine has made it very easy for me to notice when someone else is being judgmental. I've been very surprised at how prevailant the double standard is. Even my fiancee falls pray to it occasionally.

So, it's definitely not just you.

I know i'm being judgmental, and by identifying flaws i'm trying to be a better person.
Not always works, though. ;)

I've never been able to fathom how women can actually get away with getting anything they want just by looking good, I guess because I've never been in such a situation, nor do I think I could ever pull it off. It just honestly boggles my mind that this actually goes on.

i think one would have to have a certain mindset, lack of morals to do something like this, i don't know...
