To anyone who is still playing: please post a koan or guess soon to keep the game active.

Once there's been a week of no activity I'll put the game in a "no longer accepting koans" state and start a new one. I'll accept guesses on this game for perpetuity, regardless of whether the guesser had participated.

Surely I can't be the only one to get the right answer.

I'll admit that I did end up making a little table of the number and size of the relevant pieces in each koan. If you include koans 1-49, you should see the start of a pattern. Working koans 50 and 51 into it may be a little trickier though.

I've started a new game. No guessing stones or anything; just post a koan or a guess, but only one at a time. I will mark koans about once a day, or more often if there are three or more waiting. I will respond to guesses as soon as I get them. Let's try to keep most of the game discussion in this thread, to avoid post-bloat in the game thread.

Heads-up to Students who may have drifted off: Sunrise Sunset has just generated its second counterexample koan. No-one has correctly guessed the rule at this writing.

(FYI queue, while rule guesses are still being emailed plaintext to the Master, the rot13 of the guess is now being posted along with the counterexample.)

This rule is proving to be harder than I expected -- as happens from time to time around a Zendo table. I hope people don't kill me for it! I for one am having good fun being the Master, especially implementing improvements based on Student feedback (eg the enhanced summary table).

Due to personal issues, perfectcherry is unable to continue on as a student in "Closer to Real Zendo", so I'm looking for a student to take her place. Since she hasn't taken any previous moves and the only moves that have been made were Master calls, I don't see any problems with swapping a new player in at this point ( Read more... )
