Do I see a Bard reference in your subject. So good to see you active again -- and I have always loved you posts about your life. You have such vivid prose, combining lush imagery with fantastic action. I sometimes forget I am reading fact (and coming from someone who prefers fiction to biography, that is meant as a compliment).
Count me in for the fiction too. Yes, good eye on the quote. I thought "Are you (still) leaving?" was a decent title for someone who hadn't posted in a while. It was furthermore a reference to the fact that Much Ado is being performed in the outdoor theatre downtown this weekend, as well as Beckett's Endgame. (I've only ever read Waiting for Godot by Beckett--way back in high school-- but I loved it for its comic simplicity.) Anyway, that particular line is Benedick's--"What, my dear Lady Disdain! Are you yet living?"--from when he sees Beatrice again. Perhaps you even guessed as much? I get a good laugh out of that one.
I'm glad these little stories entertain you. A high compliment from a writer such as Lady DuSult. Good to see you as well!
Zia!!! So long no read! We've missed you! Sounds like you're having a wonderful vacation. I used to love to bike around Santa Cruz with my husband when we were first married. His parents used to live Aptos. Have a great rest of vacation!
Hello, Moonette! Oh right, pretty little Aptos... We surfed a beach break there two days ago called "Beercan" (a misnomer for sure) and I thought of you as we were driving back through the village, since I remember you mentioning the bicycling last year.
Well, I should say we tried to surf that beach break, lol. The tide was such that the wave faces were steep, the rip tide strong, and there was plenty of chop...plus I'm a total novice surfer. I rode three decent waves, took five more at a desperate one-knee crouch, and got washing-machined for plenty!
Lacey carrot greens plume from the top of my backpack like an organic antenna Such vivid and original imagery. I, too, would have regretted the flowers but your bounty makes my mouth water. We grew strawberries this year but the slugs have had bites out of every one so far!
Thanks, Peverell! (Now that I've read HPDH, I'm curious how you chose this name. Just pure coincidence?)
the slugs have had bites out of every one... Ugh, slugs wreak such havoc on gardens it's no wonder Hagrid had to venture into the sinister Diagon Alley for some Flesh Eatin' Slug Repellent!
It was pure coincidence. I had to choose a new name and browsed the map of southern England. I used to live near Bradford Peverell, thought it sounded good, wasn't taken, and so I chose that.
*stomach rumble* Oh dear. Just reading about this makes me drool, and I wonder why on earth I'm living in Norway, of all places? How come I'm so far away from Santa Cruz? I mean, clearly, that's where I belong... Or a part of Europe with a similar climate. Wouldn't mind that either. Wonderfully descriptive tale, I could see you zooming along, with a carrot green antenna. *g*

As an old cross country ski racer, though, I've always thought Norway has a fun culture too!
