Most trance reminds me of the ocean, of looking over the side of a boat. Aphex Twin's "Tha" is incredibly calming. The Go! Team's "Everyone's a VIP to Someone" will cheer you up, guaranteed.

1)- I can honestly say that there isn't really a song that makes me think of the desert. I'll have to look into it though. :P

2)- The song "Isobel" by Bjork makes me think of the ocean. I went walking one day while listening to that song and I stood on a bridge overlooking the Providence River. It felt amazing to have the windo blowing through my hair.

3)- Even though it's sort of a meloncholy song (Those are actually the ones that DO calm me down and make me contemplative) "Mad World" by Gary Jules is a nice one.

4)- Two albums that I really love for any occasion or mood is "Traveling Without Moving" and "Synkronized", both by British group Jamiroquai. It's really funk, upbeat music with lots of different influences.

Emilie Simon is really cool. I don't know if you'd like it.

She's a french musician who does a lot of different songs.

Honestly, I only thought of it because to me, she fits all those roles. ^_^

So I thought a little deeper about number one and it came to me. I have often flown to see my sister in Arizona, then driven to see relavtives in New Mexico. It's quite a scenic drive through the desert. One song that always brings that to mind is "Embryonic Journey" by Jefferson Airplane. It's not very long and it's totally instrumental. And it's wonderful.
