I love Die Hard. It has everything a good action movie needs: a witty protagonist, a memorable gang of villains, great pacing, humorous dialog, and, of course, plenty of action. I grew up watching this movie, and my father used to ensure that we watched it every Christmas season. It's the movie I associate most with Christmas, strangely enough. I'm ( Read more... )

heh, I've always liked that movie too and I also associate it with the holiday. Don't watch it every year, though.

The only movie that I really associated with it is peripheral and is actually more associated with my birthday...which happens to be today. :) It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. For some reason that used to show in Saint Louis on almost every Dec 26th and I love that movie.

After the above entry, I re-bought it. That's one of the only movies I've double-dipped, but the old copy I had was a non-anamorphic letterboxed version that appeared rather odd on my LCD TV (it was essentially a 4:3 picture with a letterboxing inside it, and the 4:3 then gets side-letterboxed on my 16:9 screen). I used it as an excuse to pick up the whole series, since I also enjoyed the third one.

Whew, you made me go check my copy, which is no-frills but apparently new enough to be anamorphic. Your old copy must have been very old!

I used to check every DVD I purchased to verify anamorphicness. Hmm, I don't remember when I stopped.

I wouldn't be surprised if Die Hard was amongst the first 5 or so DVDs I purchased, circa '98-ish.
