why do i feel trapped by the goals i set for myself? i took on two research-intensive classes (one of them an independent study, meaning that i set my own parameters and develop a paper out of my own interests) knowing that i would have my work cut out for me this quarter, but now, when push comes to shove, i don't feel like writing anything. You're an UNDERGRAD. You don't have the funding nor the time to do extensive research that those researchers you're referring to, do. The biggest limitation to your project is being unable to conduct fieldwork, but you can't expect to do it all right now as an undergrad! That's what grad school is for: where you can receive training and learn theory and all that stuff that will help you with your fieldwork. You're judging yourself by completely unfair parameters here. Give yourself some credit, dear. You did/are doing well with the resources you had/have. And you started in the right place. It all starts with a question and your curiosity, along with noticing a gap in the fund of information. There are so many things that lack exploration, and if you're interested in those things, then dammit, go for it and try to pave some new ground! And you don't have to write like all these old anthropologists write. Write in your own style and change the academy. You come from a different place than all those traditional anthropologists, and ( ... )
