Universities

I just read "universities have long been considered one of society's most international institutions."

Very interesting. I've never thought about this. All of a sudden it makes so much sense that I study/work in one! Can you think of other institutions that are very international in society?

...well, depends, but in so many moments in time and places on the globe, that has been true.

In the Ivy League until the last half of the 20th century, it was barely international, or nominally so--Princeton's missionaries going out into the world...

So I think it's true today, but again there are exceptions...

hmm insularity is certainly true for those east coast institutions. I guess it was easier to be "international" in Europe because there are so many countries in a small space!
