I was listening to my R.E.M. mix at work today, and as "Nightswimming" is playing, my co-worker says "Is that my favorite song I hear?" I've heard that sentiment from a lot of people, and it seems as though it's also come up a lot lately, with that hosehead in Dashboard Confessional performing it, and then with Coldplay covering it (with Michael ( Read more... )

It's a classic. I just hate the fact that the schmo from Dashboard Confessional marred it by saying it was his favorite album and performing the whole thing on MTV. Grrrr.

You're absolutely right about this song. It's been one of my iPod's favorites lately (so I get it more often), and it's struck me much the same way. Exactly the same way - it wasn't a single, as far as I remember, and "Everybody Hurts" has gotten even schmaltzier, but "Nightswimming" is elegant, understated, and really lovely.

It's an amazing song and I also love love love the video that they shot. If you haven't seen it yet, you have to check it out. I think it perfectly fits the song and it's emotions. It's seriously amazing.

I'll have to see if I can find it online - the fact that the song fades out for a minute in the middle of the video sounds pretty interesting.

It's absolutely one of my favorite REM songs, and one of my favorite songs, period. I used to listen to it driving around in my convertible at night during the summer at the end of high school/beginning of college. It was such a time of change in my life and the song just perfectly captured so many emotions I was going through. I may have to blog about this one, lest I ramble on here too much... ~ Natalie critters.wordherders.net
