It had only been two weeks into their newly formed relationship, and Yunho could already feel the stress between him and Jaejoong. Every time they went out on a date, it felt like they were best friends instead of lovers. There was just something missing, and Yunho was tired of wondering why.
And so Yunho decided to take some initiative and step it up a notch at the cafe.
Only in hindsight did he realized that it was a bad decision.
They were sitting beside each other at their usual small round table at their usual cafe after class. The only thing unusual was Jaejoong's deep sighs in between sips of coffee.
"Jaejoong-ah, are you okay?"
Jaejoong only replied with another sigh. Yunho took this opportunity to execute his plan. Shifting smoothly to his right, Yunho discreetly grabbed Jaejoong hand beneath the table. Bring his face close enough to smell Jaejoong's hair, Yunho whispered, "Tell me what's wrong..."
Jaejoong froze at the suddenly closeness and the unexpected physical contact. Yunho could feel Jaejoong's eyes darting around to see if people noticed them. After a while, he finally relaxed into the touch. Jaejoong turned to face Yunho, their noses barely touching.
"It's nothing Yunho-ah. Don't worry about it..."
Yunho squeezed Jaejoong's hand a little tighter. "It's obvious there's something wrong Jae. You know you can tell--"
"Yunho-hyung! Jaejoong-hyung!" A loud voice interrupted them from across the cafe. They looked up to see Yoochun waving at them.
Immediately, Jaejoong nudged Yunho rather forcefully back to where he was seated, and yanked his hand out of Yunho's grasp. Before Yunho could even register what was happening, Jaejoong was already happily greeting the interrupter.
"Yoochun! I haven't seen you in a while!"
"It's true Jaejoong-hyung," Yoochun pulled out a chair and sat across from them, "and that's because you need a life! I bet you haven't seen anything in a while!"
"Hey hey hey..." Yunho defended, "Don't I count as something?!"
"You?! Why would you have time to spare for Jaejoong when you were so busy chasing after that girl?"
Jaejoong raised an eyebrow at the comment. "A girl...?!" He turned his head to Yunho as if to verify.
"No, no, no...it's not like that..."
"What do you mean it's not that like? What happened to those love letters you failed to write? What happened to me who taught you how to be romantic huh? You ungrateful tactless nerd."
"Love letters huh....?" Jaejoong inquired.
Yoochun leaned forward, eager to tell the story. "Yea, so I found Yunho in the library one day writing cheesy poems and super nerdy math pick up lines. I bet he was trying to chase after some physics chick!"
At that, the pieces of puzzle finally came together for Jaejoong, and a look of pure understanding appeared on his face. Yoochun caught on to that and ask, "What? You know a girl in your class getting love letters or something?"
Jaejoong said nothing and Yunho took the opportunity to explain himself. "Look Yoochun. It's not like that. I wasn't chasing after some physics chick." Yunho reached out to grab Jaejoong's hand, to reveal to Yoochun who he was going after all along, but Jaejoong yanked his hand away one more time.
"...Yea...Don't deny it Yunho" Jaejoong said instead. "...You are going after Tiffany right?"
Yunho was speechless. "W-what? Tiffany? Who's--?"
"Oh! So that's her name! Is she hot?"
"Yoochun! You've got it all wrong--!"
"Of course she's hot! She's Yunho's target--!"
"No, no! I don't know this Tiffany person--"
"Oh, come on Yunho! Don't hog all the hot girls to yourself! Tell me about them too!"
"I don't know hot girls--!"
"Stop denying it--!"
Among the chaos, Yoochun's cell phone (fortunately or unfortunately) rung.
"Hello? Yes...OH I AM SO SORRY JUNSU-AH! I'm coming right over!" Yoochun suddenly scrambled to get up from the table. "Look, I totally forgot I'm meeting up with Junsu. You've got to tell me more about this Tiffany later. Bye!"
And just like the wind, Yoochun vanished.
Little did he knew he left two very upset people behind.
Yunho turned to Jaejoong. "Why won't you let Yoochun know about us? Are you ashamed of me?"
Jaejoong stared at his cold coffee to avoid Yunho's accusing glare. "It's not that. I'm just not comfortable yet..."
"What? So you are not comfortable with me? Is that what it is?"
"Yunho! Stop being so irrational! It's not that at all! I just have a lot to deal with right now!"
Yunho sighed in frustration. "Then why don't you let me help you?! Why can't you let me care for you?!"
Instead of yelling back, Jaejoong simply gathered this things and stood up.
"Jae...where are you going...?"
"Leaving."
Jaejoong took a step, but Yunho used brute force to drag him back down into his seat. "Look Jae, as a boyfriend, I need to care about you."
Jaejoong squeezed his eyes shut and took a deep breath. Slowly but forcefully, he twisted his hand out of Yunho's hold.
"Well, maybe I'm not ready for you to care about me just yet."
Yunho watched wordlessly as Jaejoong walked out the door. He was so confused, totally perplexed. He had no idea what just happened. One thing he was sure of though.
He was sure he had just been rejected. It was hard to ignore the searing pain of rejection burning on his hand.
So maybe it was a bad decision to hold Jaejoong's hand after all.

A/N: Argh. Okay, rereading this again I realized my writing sucked here. Shouldn't have done this at 3 in the morning. Since I'll be going on vacation soon I thought I'd write something before my haitus, but this obviously isn't good enough. If I have time, I'll write more.
And if you are wondering what Jaejoong's problem is, it'll be revealed later, don't worry. He's not PMS-ing.
Thank you for reading this...vomit. ._. *pukes*
