It's time to wax philosophical.

This is an open post.

What do you do when the country you live in, or a group you belong to, or any entity that you are associated with, does something you find objectionable? What if is something serious, such as oppressing your right to free speech or violating the Constitution in some other way, or racist or other bigoted behavior?
As I see it, ( Read more... )

I think people like Michael Moore are true patriots. I think people who refuse to shop at Wal-Mart are doing their civic duty.

Me, I admit, fighting is not my strong point. But I do know how to stand my ground. I probably would suck at throwing stones (I throw like a girl), but I am pretty good at finding stones and coming figuring out where best to throw them.

You can fight with your keyboard or a sign on your lawn and, yes, collecting rocks and figuring out where they need to go.

Or running topless across the country with "Hillary" painted on your chest!

I've protested for a variety of things since I was a teen...starting with the Soviet Embassy when they were refusing to let Jews leave the USSR for Israel or the USA.

I now spend a lot of time fighting for the rights of the disabled and the schools that teach them...and need funding despite the fact that all these children can NOT meet the "no child left behind" criteria.

Now hubby and I have to prepare to categorize our son to assure that he will never be accidentally drafted. (He turns 18 this summer.)

I definitely stand by your side and fight...I also boycott when I know of products/companies that are supporting bigoted organizations.

Wonderful post, Zortrana. Thank you! Did you go caucus today? If you did, how was it?

The caucus was in February. We do still have the Democratic National Convention coming soon to a city near us. Can you imagine what the traffic and the security is going to be like?

*headdesk* WHY do I have mental block on your location? If anyone asked me where you live, I'd promptly respond with "Cheyenne, WY." Yeah, the convention will no doubt be a pain. Why any city wants a national convention or the Olympics is beyond me. Don't they all end up losing money? Seems like I've read that.

I did live in Chey-town when you met me and I keep going back there because Momster is in the nursing home there and that is where one of my sisters and her spawn live.

I think a lot of cities do lose money when they have these things, but maybe people come back and vacation here later. Or people see it on TV and decide to book a meeting or something here? I don't know, but Colorado DOES rely heavily on the tourista dollars.

I'm not handing it over either. And I'm not going to give up and say it's hopeless so why bother.

I'm not into the whole "give up and run" idea! Enough of us have got to work for positive change or things will only get worse.
