What fandom has taught me ...

Before I start, if I piss anyone off, well, too bad. This is my opinion only, and its something I've been thinking about for a while, and recent events have sort of forced it to the front. I don't mind an intelligent discussion, but I do mind assholes. Don't be one here, thank you ( Read more... )

I totally agree; I mean, I see the crap people send my favorite band members on Twitter, and I just want to either punch them in the face or just reach through the screen and say to the guys, "I swear to God we are not ALL slutty and stupid. Some of us have an IQ bigger than our cup size and just ... sorry dudes."

Oh look, here are my thoughts. Ok, slightly more colorfully described, but still my thoughts exactly. We're a society of creepy sociopaths with zero empathy. I include myself, though on the continuum between fanfiction and cutting myself, I am obviously erring on the side of fanfiction. We obsess, but we don't respect. We create our most deep and lasting relationships with people we don't even know. Maybe it's less scary to wonder why Matthew Gray Gubler (Dr Spencer Reid - Criminal Minds) never actually calls to tell me he's dying to get to know me better. I am writing a love story starring Dr Daniel Jackson (Stargate SG-1), but I am pretty sure I never even wrote one love poem for my ex husband. I wrote a rather emotional one about his mental illness, but no fantasies of perfect imaginary love there.

Well you know me, I am nothing if not colorful - and yes, yes we are. It's scary to be my age and watch this all happening and think wow, FUCK, we messed up big time with these kids.

We get so invested in fanfic cause its the one place we can control what the people we desire, do. We can impugn them with all the traits or habits we find hot, and they can do, say, be with, whoever we want. It puts reality to shame.

Thank you! I just finally got on a rant about this, cause Twitter does that to me. This is what I get for participating in heavily teen-based fandoms. *sighs*

And your icon.... *cracks up*

You totally get it, don't you? I think we've talked about this before, but yeah. What 'we' consider okay behavior in fandom is just plain unreal.

Oh yes, my dear. I totally get it. All of it. *nods* I think we've talked about it, but then again we've talked about a lot and my memory is sometimes failing. :-) Being involved in fandoms are crazy at times, and when I got involved in a bandom, Tokio Hotel, it got even crazier. And I thought the Buffy fandom was insane! X-D

Also, just to add to it... *lol* Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee or probably the most fun guys I've ever followed on Twitter. *lol* Even Mick Mars and Vince Neil are cool, if more laid back, but the Terror Twins are just awesome! X-D

Yes! Exactly.

And yeah, I totally expect our babies to have their groping sessions backstage, which is fine, as long as you don't actually tweet them about it~ XD

*claps*

I sure as hell hope they make good use of their bunks, as they say. I keep hoping they'll tweet US about them. Like, "Wow, Kendall's hops really do NOT lie," and "Logan can't dance, but boy can that boy MOVE," and so on. :D
