Disheartened.

Volunteered at the AIDS Hospice last night.
Met a brand new resident.
He was 23 years old.

God. I know what a hospice is, but is AIDS hospice what it sounds? Dumb question but Im curious.

I'm sure they are all different, but yes. Mine is a facility that provides skilled nursing care for patients who have "fallen through the cracks"- maybe they don't have insurance, or they don't have family to care for them, etc. Essentially the residents are too sick to live on their own, but healthy enough that they don't need to be in a hospital.

Seriously. There is no reason that in 2008, ANYONE should be contracting HIV. It is just too easy NOT to. This is why we are making our documentary. Poeple seem to somehow forget that it is still a problem. Just because drugs can extend your life expectancy, doesn't mean you should go back to your old ways of unprotected sex and re-using needles!
For crying out loud, I know a number of organizations that give out free condoms. There's just no excuse.
