Unexpected Both of them started laughing and DG dropped her head to Cain's shoulder. "He has a point," Cain said as DG put a hand on his cheek and stared at him. "I don't know when it happened, but..."
DG looked away for a moment then back to Cain and she smiled. "I fell in love with you, Tin Man." Cain smiled and he pulled her into a hug - which wasn't very difficult, as she was still in his arms. Their lips found each other again and they kissed until neither of them could hold their breath any longer.
They stayed in the water for a few more minutes before finally deciding it was best to get out of the ocean. DG hadn't brought a change of clothes because she hadn't intended to go swimming, so she was trying to figure out how best to not freeze once the afternoon breeze picked up.
May still had a tendency to get cold, and if she got sick, Cain was going to pay dearly. As they reached the edge of the water, the guys were cheering on Cain and Josh pulled DG into a hug, wrapping her with a towel. "So, think there's still hope for me and Amanda?" he asked with a smirk.
"Please," DG shrugged. "It would break my sister's heart."
He laughed and hugged her again. "I love you, Dee."
"Hey," Cain said, finally pulling free from Mike and Randy. "Took me three years; don't just come in here and say that," he waved to Josh with a smile. Putting his arms around DG, Cain pulled her away from Josh and rested his chin on her shoulder.
"Whatever," Josh said, waving at the both of them and moving back toward Trent and Scott.
DG turned to look at Cain. "This changes things a bit."
Cain nodded. "Are you okay with that?" DG glanced at the sand for a second and smiled.
Looking back to Cain, she nodded. "Yeah." Cain smiled and pressed a kiss to the side of her head.

The guys had another round of football going when DG and the girls returned from the souvenir shop across the street. She was going to just wear Cain's t-shirt over hers, but then his shirt would be wet, too. When the breeze picked up, she headed across the street to find the cheapest sweatshirt she could find.
She had been highly entertained to find a grey one with the words Muscle Beach Lifeguard printed across the front, and she bought one in Cain's size. After all, he should have something to commemorate his first real day at the beach. She was going to have to tell him she was going back to the Zone.
Timing really was a bitch.
The guys pulled the girls into the football game and DG actually did pretty well; she didn't tell Cain or Josh that she used to play football in Kansas... back when she wasn't getting speeding tickets and considering running off to Australia.
Josh and Trent finally started calling fouls on Cain and DG every time they even looked like they were about to start making out, which prompted Cain to chase the both of them down the beach.
As the sun began to set, Scott and Randy needed to get back for study groups, as well as get their girlfriends back to campus, and Mike was riding with them. Trent rode down with Josh, Cain and DG, so the group wished each other a good night and packed up.
"You guys wanna grab dinner somewhere?" Josh asked as he shoved the football behind the back seat and closed the door.
"I could eat," DG nodded. Trent and Cain glanced at the signs nearby and they ended up at a small surf shack-type place. They sat on the porch and watched the sun set over the water as they dined on burgers. Trent and DG talked about Lisa and his classwork while Cain and Josh talked about Josh's paper for Film Musicals.
DG excused herself at one point and, on her way back from the restroom, she caught a glimpse of the boys standing near the bar, watching one of the TVs. Smiling, she turned toward the water and moved to the railing. She pressed her cheek to the post and looked out over the beach and ocean, watching the sun move closer to the horizon.
Cain looked away from the TV and saw her standing there; he threw a glance to Josh and Trent before stepping away and moving across the patio. "Hey," he said, stopping next to her and tilting his head slightly. DG turned toward him and smiled, then nodded toward the sun, which was quickly reaching the water.
Cain stepped behind DG and she leaned back slightly as his arms went around her. "Won't see that in the Zone," he said, pressing his cheek to the side of her head. "I have to say... one sun is more impressive than two," he said, taking in the reds and oranges, which soon became purple and blues.
"It's okay," DG shrugged, turning in Cain's arms so that she was facing him. She purposefully glanced over to where Josh and Trent were still watching the TV and then looked back to Cain. He looked over to his friends as well and smiled before looking back to DG. His eyes locked on hers for a few seconds and he leaned in to press a kiss to her lips.

By the time Josh dropped them off, it was far too late for Cain to go across the street and tell Simon about the afternoon's success. Besides, they would be over for dinner the next day. DG was tired; between the sea, the sun and making out with Wyatt Cain, she'd had a rather full day.
When they got upstairs, she kicked her shoes off inside the door and pulled her socks off. Figuring they were better suited for the trash, DG didn't bother and moved straight to the hamper in the bathroom. She turned on the shower and darted into her room to grab some clean pajamas before closing the door to the bathroom again.
A few minutes later, she emerged and waved Cain in - this was a system they'd nearly perfected after eight months. Glancing from the couch to the bathroom door, DG turned and tilted her head slightly as she moved into the kitchen.
"You know," Cain said as he emerged from the bathroom. "I don't think I've ever been so tired," he finished, stretching his neck from side to side. "And I hoofed it from one end of the Zone to the other in about three days."
"And then back again," DG said with a smile as she moved around the counter.
Cain smiled and pulled her close, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. "I don't even want to look at that book," he sighed, his eyes still closed.
DG smiled into his shirt and pulled back to look up at him. "I think you deserve a break from studying."
"You do, huh?" DG nodded. Her hand found his and she pulled him toward the bedroom. Cain raised an eyebrow and glanced up to see his pillow and blanket on the bed. DG let go of his hand and moved to the side of the bed, pulled the blanket and sheet back and climbed into bed.
Cain reached for his blanket and shook it out over the blanket that was already there and moved to the other side of the bed. Cain sat down on the bed and twisted, letting his head fall to the pillow. DG turned and rested her cheek against his chest - just as she had back in March - and Cain put an arm around her.
"I like this study break," he said a moment later with a smile. DG smiled and, within a few minutes, both of them were fast asleep.
