I worked on the stays again today. I have fabric failures all over the place and now I'm regretting the very narrow wares I used to bind the stays. It would have been at least annother couple layers before I had to think about re- working.

Fabric ahoy! )

Why thank you! I can't wait to cut the stripe. It will look far better than the blue, lol.

Thank you very much. I've learned my lesson about sub- standard fabrics though. Coutil from now on!

Looks nice, though. I make my stays in sturdy linen- two layers and they keep very well.

I had flimsy linen laying around, spoiled tablecloths mostly, that are fine for the interior of a piece to *add* stability, but not to hold bones. My first prototype of this pair of stays was linen with a woolen outer shell. But the linen was in dire straits, so I axed them in lieu of this pair.

I know that stays are one of the garments I want to keep in my wardrobe, so I'll be grabbing coutil and really looking harder what outer layers to use.

I'm getting ready to cut the gown today, so by haloween I may have some pictures of a dress to share. Provided I have enough fabric on hand! ;-)
