Title: Belong Here Rating: G Pairing: Mal/Inara Spoilers: None. Word Count: 1100+ Feedback: Yes, please! Summary: We all have bad habits, don't we? AN: alizarin_nyc just didn't know what she was letting loose, when she asked for Mal/Inara.
Hee! I'm not even sure where this piece came from. I'd just finished the other one (Coming Away Bloody), and my muse leaned in and said "Wait! I'm not done yet!" LOL.
AN: alizarin_nyc just didn't know what she was letting loose, when she asked for Mal/Inara.
Oh but I think I did. Just call it a hunch. *g*
First, that Zoe knows... that fits, as no one knows Mal better than she does.
Life is suffering, the Buddha had said, and how very, cruelly true those words remain, thousands of years of light and time away.
Yes, indeed.
but every Companion knew there was plenty of comfort to be had in the simple exchange of pleasantries and small truths in an amenable atmosphere. And though Mal was not her client, and never would be, it was pleasant for her, too, and good practice, as well.
This is what makes them tragic, as a couple, and interesting for me. I like slash because it's forbidden and that's what attracts me to Buffy/Spike and Mal/Inara. There's no way Mal can ever have Inara, because she's not to be had, and there's no way Inara can ever have Mal for the same reason. She wouldn't know when to stop being a Companion.
And yet, perversely, she found herself looking forward to these moments;
( ... )
This is basically the FB I would give. Loved that Zoe silently knew, as is her way.
And I too see similarities between my shipping of Mal/Inara and Spike/Buffy.
I think I have not delved into reading Mal/Inara fic because I feared a simplying that would take out the conflict and the heat but this ficlet is one that convinces me to persevere.
