LIfe is a whirlwind...but I wanted to take time to document all of this.

We have grown to a household of 5 girls and one boy, plus two parents.  Ages 21, 18 (boy), 12, 19 mon, 17 mon, and a child age 16 chronologically but 5 mentally.

Whew.

Unbelievable )

Wow that is just crazy what went on with the nurse. You seriously have to wonder how some people got their jobs!

The stuff we encounter is truely hard to believe. Very unprofessional. She had only to admit to needing a few moments to refresh herself about the meds, or else she should have admitted she was unsure and checked with the pharmacist or doctor. She definitely blew it, and now I don't really trust anything she has to say.

And this woman is a nurse? I have no medical training and I could have given the child her insulin shot just from watching other people do it (it runs in my family). This gal is lucky to have you to take care of her since this nurse can't seem to do it.

We (agency and I) fired the nurse. Turns out they have had problems with her before!

once again you demonstrate the need for foster parent training, not for dealing with the children and any problems they might have, but for dealing with all the idiot "experts" that cross our paths.

how many are you licensed to take? are you full now?

my twins can go home any day now, but mom has decided to move, so she has to wait a couple weeks after the move. dummy, why doesn't she get them back and then move. . . common sense is not so common. . .

Common sense - you are so right, it is not so common. I've been serving on a committee to plan trainings for foster parents, and the agency folks keep talking about the skills we need to care for kids, and I keep telling them that the biggest 'skills' folks need to develop are strategies to deal with the beaurocracy, ways to advocate for their children within the beaurocracy.

I am able to take three children, so I am now full.

so you say, full that is. . . but if your coordinator wanted to, I think she could wiggle room a sibling or special need in. . .

you are big hearted. I wish I had your energy and patience.
