Taking each day as it comes, appreciating the moment - that helps me to get through life!

and even after they have moved on, you see their shadows in the sunlight patterns throughout your house. . .

it's hard to stop missing them even when you are glad they are gone!

ohhh, I like that image of their shadows in the sunlight patterns! We had one little boy who was literally afraid of his own shadow when he walked through our hall, and I can't see a shadow there without thinking of him.

shadows have always been our friends that join us on walks. . . a game we play is trying to step on each others' shadows. I always squeal "Ouch!" which tickles the little ones.

I love your blog! I want to read the whole thing page-for-page although it's hard because I don't have my own computer! I am hoping to become a foster parent some day when I have a normal place to live. My friend and I actually sort of informally foster parent two girls... although I know it's not the same, we take them on weekends and vacations as much as possible because their dad doesn't take care of them very much. He is thinking of signing custody over to my friend (she has her own house and siliarly-aged kids and I have NOTHING) but we're not sure he will do it. Anyway just wanted to tell you to keep up the good work in blogging and in life!

:)

It's great that you can care for these kids, even if it is only weekends and vacations - I'm sure the memories of the time you spend together help carry them through the week.

The girls I was telling you about... I met them because I knew their mother, who had a serious drug problem. I used to take care of them the majority of the time when they lived with their mother. She eventually got arrested for drugs, and the girls were in foster care for 3 years. The mom was supposed to go through rehab and then get the girls back, but she disappeared and didn't keep up contact with the DCFS people I guess. Anyway their dad got custody of them after three years... but for those three years they were moved from place to place every six months or so. It is hard to get a true story out of their dad, but the girls have told us that they were with different aunts and different foster parents, each of whom told the girls they were going to be adopted by them. The dad said that the littlest one was being "auctioned" off and that the adoption agency was "asking" $30,000 for her, he also claimed that they tried to strike a bargain with him that they'd give him custody of the older one if they'd let the littlest one be ( ... )
