I myself applied to GD not too long ago. My big problem is that after getting my degree, I went off and worked in business app development, rather than going right into the engineering shitatsu.
Vinnie, what the hell is a shitatsu? Mr. Webster and I have no idea, although he thinks you mean shiatsu, the massaging of the acupuncture areas; I keep telling him he's wrong, but he won't listen.
In any event, did you apply for an engineering internship, or for the job itself? I really feel like if I can just get that first interview, I'll be able to force myself in; it's getting that first call that I'm worried about. I'm not really in a financial situation to go waste $200 on resume's at the moment. I guess if all else fails, it's back to bartending...could be worse; I was making a shit-ton of money at the last place I worked.
It just occurred to me that if my 16 year old self saw this message, he would want to beat the shit out of me.
Shitatsu is my own personal bastardization of shizzat, which is a bastardization of plain old shit.
I applied for the job itself. They've got openings for algorithm/software development and for radar stuff. With my background, I can probably do either. It's just a matter of getting them to ignore my business experience and focus on my educational experience. :P
Good luck getting in...If I make it to an interview before you, I'll try to put in a good word. What's your education in?
I'll be finishing up my General Management B.S. in December, but according to my guy inside, they *love* OU kids, and are very accommodating to students, both during internships and if you are offered a permanent position.
To be perfectly frank, I could make much more money annually bartending at the right place, but I'm just done with that work, and ready to get settled into the rat race. It frightens the shit out of me to realize that I'm about to turn 25 and my retirement savings consists of the $44.27 that I accumulated over 3 years at K-Mart. I'm really confident that if I can just manage to secure the internship that I'll be really successful at GD, but from what I hear, they're extremely competitive, and my only real advantage (the fact that my uncle and cousin are both 'stars' in the company) isn't really an avenue they're willing to go down.
Thank you for the offer Vinnie; I really appreciate it. And please do keep me up to speed on your own progress.
