Ville woke a little later to the ringing of the telephone; gently removing himself from Bam’s grasp, he silently crept to the kitchen to answer it.

“Hei?”

“Terve, Ville. How are you?”

Ville smiled. “Not too bad, Lily, and yourself?”

“Same as always, Vil’. So what have you been doing with yourself lately?” There was an edge of tease in Linde’s voice that made Ville giggle.

“Actually, I’ve been with Bam.”

The roll of Linde’s eyes was obvious. “No, duh, but what have you been doing?” The tone of his friend’s voice spoke to Ville, saying he already knew.

Ville laughed. “Oh, you know, this and that. Sucking him off, kissing him breathless, saving him from reptile houses and bitching out his boss…”

Linde laughed heartily. “Same old Ville, eh? Got time between all that loving for a visit from a couple old friends?”

Ville grinned. “Oh, of course! When will you and Mizee be here?”

“We’ll be at the airport in Philly around ten A.M. tomorrow. Pick us up?”

“Definitely. So see you then, Lin?”

“See you then, Ville! Kiitos!” He hung up and Ville smiled; it only faded when he recalled who was sleeping in the next room.

Bam had always hated Linde and Mige; they’d been the bullies who’d stolen Bam’s teddy bear and Bam had never really forgiven them. They’d fought many a time about Ville’s friendship with them.

Ville pulled a pan from the cupboard and eggs from the fridge and set to making Bam breakfast, giggling quietly to himself at all the little sounds and signs of the younger man waking up. A groan, then a loud yawn, then a thud alerted Ville that Bam was fully awake, and not a second too soon, as the eggs started to sizzle and Bam drug his feet through the door with an adorably grumpy expression on his face.

“Food?” he grunted, planting himself gracelessly onto a stool at the island in the middle of the kitchen.

Ville stifled a snicker behind his hand, scrambling the eggs with the one holding the spatula. “Yeah, Bammie, eggs are food.”

Ville heard a thump as Bam’s head dropped on the wood of the island and chuckled. “Good,” came the muffled murmur of gratitude.

Ville finished scrambling the eggs and, setting the spatula carefully on the counter, grabbed two plates and dished up the meager breakfast. He slid one in front of Bam and tucked into his own with gusto, watching Bam pick at the fluffy eggs with a bored expression on his face.

“How’d you sleep?” Ville swallowed his last mouthful and got up to get a glass of juice, quirking an eyebrow to prompt Bam to answer.

With food in him, Bam slowly began to come alive, eyes gaining vibrancy and lines of exhaustion leaving his face. “A lot better with you, Vil’.” His smile was such that Ville felt himself unable to resist smiling back, so adorable and sweet and earnestly sincere.

The guilt every time he did this was fading, for now, anyway. So instead of beating himself up about something he really couldn’t control anymore, Ville stretched across the table to kiss Bam softly. “I feel the same, Bammie,” he said with an adoring smile.

“So what’s on the agenda for today, babe?” Bam asked, gulping down a glass of water from the sink and swiping his sleeve across his lips to wipe the drops left.

Ville bit his lip; he surely would have to think of something great to prepare Bam for the news of Lily and Mige’s arrival tomorrow.

“How ‘bout we-…” Ville was interrupted by the ring of the phone; ruffling Bam’s hair affectionately, he got up to get it.

“Hei?”

Bam couldn’t hear what was being said, only that whatever it was, it was terribly pleasing Ville.

“Oh, hi. You really thought so?” Bam could almost hear the blush.

“Oh fuck, are you serious? Today? Of course!” Ville was breathless now with excitement.

The sigh that came next worried Bam. “No…no, I won’t tell him, and you’re not allowed to either. Thank you. I’ll be there!”

“Alright, bye!”

Ville replaced the phone on its hook and hurried back to Bam, a wide grin on his face. His happiness stopped short when he caught the look Bam had.

“What’s wrong, love?” Ville tenderly kissed Bam’s temple, sitting cross-legged on the table in front of where Bam sat.

Bam frowned. “Who aren’t you supposed to tell…and what aren’t you supposed to tell them?”

Ville swallowed hard; the heart versus head battle was back again, with heart nearly winning over his head.

Just fucking tell him. Maybe he won’t be that angry.

….But he’ll hate me!

Better to tell him now than wait any longer. Which would you rather do, hurt him now while he’ll still let you help him heal, or tell him later and lose him forever?

...But what I’m getting for this is worth it…

…Is it really?

Ville silenced the pleas from his heart and made up a lie on the spot, looking away from Bam’s eyes while he said it so it wasn’t as bad.

“Up at the studio, it’s Herb’s birthday and we’re not supposed to tell him about the cake we’re making…that’s all.” It was actually a pretty good fib considering the ten seconds he’d had to come up with it.

Bam looked relieved, in any case, his eyes glittering and smile genuine again. “Oh, okay. Well, you’ve never had a problem with birthday surprises; I doubt you will with this one. Remember what you gave me for my eighth?”

Ville grinned; of course he remembered. Bam must have told him a thousand times that night that he was his best friend and he loved him. He hadn’t been able to get the eager little boy to shut up or get out of his lap all night!

“Oh, you mean, your first video camera?”

Bam nodded. “With all the money you got mowing lawns, you bought me a video camera. I remember thinking even then: this is how a best friend is supposed to be.”

Ville smiled, sitting next to Bam and wrapping his arms around him, pulling him to lie on his chest and sit in his lap. "We were, Bam; you were definitely the best friend I'd ever had."

Bam leant up to kiss the curve of Ville's jaw line. "You forget, Willa, we still are and always will be. Best friends and so much more." Bam snuggled closer to Ville and sighed contentedly.

Ville couldn't help but smile at him. He often forgot how adorably naive and optimistic Bam was, how much younger his friend was. It was moments like this that reminded him.

Ville just pressed his lips to Bam's messy bedhead and whispered, "I hope so, Bammie."

*

They sat like that for a long moment before Bam turned to Ville with questioning eyes. "Where exactly are we going, then? You never finished telling me."

Ville fought the frown as he remembered he'd have to cancel their plans. "Well, I was going to suggest an amusement park or something of the like, but I'm wanted at the studio."

Bam's eyebrows shot up. "Really? A real studio?"

Ville smiled at Bam's eagerness. "Yeah, Bammie, a real studio; they want me to audition for this movie called Black Love."

Bam jumped off Ville's lap. "Well, let's fucking go then! I can't wait to see you act in front of an audience!" He was off and down the hall before Ville could pull him back, slamming the door behind him and rooting through his closet, from the sound of it.

"What does the actor's lover wear to a studio?" Ville heard him ask himself and laughed out loud.

"He wears whatever he wants, because the actor doesn't care either way!" he shouted back, and he heard Bam jump and the cursing as he knocked his head on the ceiling of his closet.

"I'll be in the car!" Ville shouted, sliding his lithe body into a pair of skintight jeans and a black button down, fixing his makeup and his hair, and then running down the stairs to his car.

Ville waited for Bam impatiently, tapping his foot against the dashboard and humming under his breath.

Then Bam stumbled down the stairs and out the door and Ville's breath stopped.

...Perhaps we should stay home...
