choc full o' updates
First off, and most importantly: It appears that my residency situation has been fixed! A number of residents made a lot of noise, notified the local press, had many meetings with state legislators and other officials and that made all the difference. I can almost certainly finish my residency program here. This is a huge relief!

badness
I witnessed a bad car accident tonight. Stopped and helped take care of people with the paramedics and firefighters. Two dead on the scene...I intubated one on the roadside before we pronounced him. Another death on the scene and a kiddo in critical condition. Drunk driver naturally okay. Really rough. Gee, I wonder why I can't sleep tonight -
sickness abounds
My dad is in the hospital with pneumonia and some unknown stomach bug and my kiddo is running 101-102 temp and has now busted out with a full-body rash. I sure hope I can avoid all of the pestilence!!! -
recovering
I've been back in my home ED for a week now. It is definitely good to be back, but I'm so bummed about the residency closing and all of the up-in-the-air parts of this that it's affecting my desire and will to work. It's been getting a bit better, so maybe I'll snap out of it soon ( Read more... ) -
update of my update
Today we got a reprieve: my attendings were reinstated until Jun 30. That means that I have a program until June 30 or until the hospital closes, whichever comes first. My attendings will continue to work on an option in-state, but I will also be working on finding another spot for July 1. At least I have some time to be circumspect about it.

very brief update
I'm too angry to post much, but here's the summary:- residency closing Dec 31
- I can't keep my residency funding, so I have to find open, funded spots
- none of these spots are remotely close to home
- I either have to quit residency and find a job that pays well enough that I can still pay off my loans, or I have to be away from my family ( Read more... )

a little break
I get every Wednesday off while I'm on the trauma service, so I'm coming home Tuesday nights and driving back around 4 am on Thursdays so I can get to my shift on time. Today has consisted of laundry and errands. Nothing exciting, except I learned that you basically can only get replacement windshield wiper blades for a VW bug from a VW dealer ( Read more... )
