I am thrilled that you are doing much better! We got frequent updates on our end from the Austin crew, and I discovered along the way that a coworker of mine is actually a friend-of-friends, which was trippy, and he better have gotten in touch!
Anyway, in celebration, I'm going to abuse my power and buy up some of your books for my library. Shhh, don't tell my boss-person. :)
I would never rat out a librarian. Do you know what writers say about librarians? "A librarian who likes a writer will tell three of her friends. A librarian who hates a writer will tell ten." Enjoy the power your position gives you...
It's such a relief to hear that you made it through. You have a real gift, and I've enjoyed your stories immensely. Glad to know you'll be around for a while longer!
As a fellow diabetic, here's a tip FWIW: When I had a leg ulcer that wouldn't heal, I tried the very-low-carb Atkins diet. It worked, and my leg healed within a few days, plus I felt tons better -- more alert and energetic, better vision, etc. The main downside is that it's hard to stick to.
Thanks for the tip. I'm still in the early stages of determining the best schedules, diets, and drug regimens to keep everything in control; I expect to be a lot more comfortable with things in a few weeks. Here's hoping.
A really excellent resource is the website Blood Sugar 101. You can find scientific studies and research explained in layman's terms, not to mention recipes and other good advice. I have found that many doctors don't know much more than what the drug company reps tell them; this site will give you more and better info on drugs and diet regimens than you'll get anywhere else. Good luck!
Thank God you're alive and on the road to well. We were just thinking about you and hoping you were alive. We saw all kinds of things the first week of your illness, then nothing. And I swear someone said you were in DENVER for all of this - or we'd've come visit. 8-)
Denver, huh? Well, its airport is another layover destination, but no. (Ironically, that's the sort of detail that gets mangled when people play the Grapevine game, and where was I hospitalized? Grapevine.)
(Coincidence?)
(Well, yes. >)
Thanks for the good thoughts. I promise to be as healthy as an oddly-scarred bull the next time you see me.

But yes, we've had you in our thoughts and prayers for a while now. Glad to have the first-hand account.
