One of my readers asked about the Dead River. I don’t know where the name comes from, but it’s probably safe to assume it derives from the dark, slow-moving water. The earliest name I can find is Ne-ka-Men-on -a nod to the Noquet Indian tribe, who summered in the blueberry fields north of the river. I live on the edge of town. North of my home is a mess of lakes and forests until you get to Big Bay, forty miles away. Past Big Bay the land curves west, and Lake Superior stretches north to Canada. We went and saw "Million Dollar Baby" last night, the Clint Eastwood flick that won Best Picture this year. D and I talk about going to movies a lot; we rarely actually get off our asses and go. I think it went pretty well. As it turns out, they're looking for people with C#/.NET experience, but advertised for Java because they figured they'd NEVER find someone with the newer skill set in this town.
