Things I have learned lately.

Just got back from the 3 day dressage show in Santa Fe.  Didn't show Friday.  Rode two tests Saturday.  Rode two tests this morning, packed up my stuff and my horse, drove home (4.5 hours), unloaded my horse, unloaded my stuff, started laundry, attended half a zoom meeting (for small group), and and now drinking my second cup of tea.

*I'm pretty sure it's wrong to obtain a boyfriend just to help me at shows. Also, I'd have to deal with them during non-show hours. (I was pretty much the only one there all by myself)

LOL it's funny when things reach the point where one considers this. I

Doesn't quite sound like fun, but certainly interesting and informative. Good luck at your next show!

It is a lot of work, and expensive. Before the plague I only went to one official show a year. (although part of that is how far away some of these are). This was my first official show since 2019.

But there are people who go several weekends a year. no thanks

I am definitely pro e-bike :>

The dogs would be annoying to me, too -_- (and I love dogs! But that's not the point at a horse event...)

It's funny though, because the ones they had were so tiny they looked like they were for kids, but they weren't.

Exactly. Focus on the point of the show, and let the rest of us focus on our stuff. Of course, there were several well behaved dogs, but even people with jerk dogs still think they're well behaved. :(

Weird! Mine is definitely adult sized. o_O

Agreed whole heartedly. (And sadly, jerk people make jerk dogs...and kids...SIGH.)

I hope it was all worth it in the end. I think I have competed in off-property shows twice in my life, although I have been to a few to watch other people ride my horses in them. Riddle was going to do her first off-property show a couple months ago, but the weather didn't cooperate (although the big storm that was predicted never happened). I have never been to a show that lasted more than a day. The previous barn I rode at aspired to be a fancy show barn and did the multi-day shows. I remember how excited everyone was for the Hampton Classic and there was one in Culpepper Farm in Virginia that I didn't know much about that obsessed them all. I don't even want to think about the preparation for something like that. And the cost!

Second and third level is impressive though! My trainer wants to get Riddle to First Level, but so far she has only done one training test. The kid that shows here is away for the summer, so she's missing out on a lot of practice.

It is a lot of work to go to an official multi day show. I usually go to schooling shows a few hours away from me. They have them about 5 times a year. Still takes most of the day because of the driving.

Don't know that I would want to be at a fancy show barn. There's so much focus on winning, and getting to regionals, and finals. I like to focus on the work and connection and improving. My goal with my riding right now is to get my bronze medal. Just need two third level scores. :/
