Maybe you're a libertarian? Anyway, thanks for restoring my faith that there are people out there who disagree with my general thoughts on government size and fiscal policy, but are still sane and rational people. Palin Beck etc and the media attention they get makes it hard to remember.
I really wish I could vote for something that mattered. The biggest issue on my ballot is whether the district's Attorney General is elected or appointed. Sigh.
To quote School House Rock: "That's called taxation without representation, and that's not fair! Wrong! It's WRONG!!!"
In other news, Wondermark is a super fun comic, and the MOD thing was awesome (both in being a good book and in showing the power of the internet). I totally bought a copy. :)
It is starting to look like I am a Libertarian. Unfortunately, most of the Libertarians actually running around here are, to put it politely, insane. Like, running on the Eat Your Pets platform insane.
I think it is important for people to be able to discuss different viewpoints. That's the whole point of our system of government. Demonizing the other side doesn't help matters, it just muddies the water. I kind of feel the same way about Beck and Palin as I do the Westboro Baptist church. I mean, I am a Christian, but what I believe and what they believe are at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Ok, the Eat Your Pets story is hilarious. And our two party system does tend to lead to some real crazies running outside those two parties. My favorite in DC, by far, is Queen Noble of the HEROSHERO party, running for Delegate to the House of Representatives (a position with a modicum of influence in the House, but no vote on bills). Her entire platform is that the California Department of Children and Family Services should give her back her kids, or that the US Supreme court should let her win her law suit, or something. If she were running for the House or the Senate (which are not real positions in DC, but we vote for them anyway), I'd consider voting for her for pure comedic value
( ... )
I thought you would like that story. Just as I like the HEROSHERO party.
And yes! This is what I am saying. I think both sides have good ideas a valid points. Surely we can figure out something.
I so wanted to go to the Jon Stewart rally. I wound up working both Saturday and Sunday this weekend, so I guess I made the right choice. Sometimes being a grown-up sucks.
