I need some advice from the knitters here. I swatched for my hidcote shawl tonight.. But Im having trouble pinning down which one to go for. I'm leaning towards size 3 needles.
I agree with torrilin above, you're going to want a fully blocked swatch with edging. Stretched on the needles tends not to give you a good idea of what the final product will do, especially the YOs.
I'm glad I bought an extra ball for swatching and practice. Please feel free to pick it apart - can you see what Im doing wrong, or what I can do better? I am going to cast on for a swatch today that is stockinette and the edge of the shawl today.
They look pretty similar... I suppose I'd go with the four just because it would make it a tiny, tiny bit bigger and faster and it certainly doesn't look any worse.
Hahaha...not what I meant, no. Just that you'd be getting the benefit of slight speed and size without trading off looks. Though the above commenters are probably right about blocking them.(Besides, "the one on 3's doesn't look any better" sounds way worse.)
They both look lovely, just very much the same to me :-)
I'm really testing myself with this pattern, but it is for a college class (The History and Theory of Knitting). And for the project, she said that we need to do something to challenge ourselves. I figure I have been treading water long enough doing projects that I am comfortable with, I want to learn more stuff. I do feel odd, though, because everyone else is there with red heart and boye needles, and I'm there with my Harmony's and Jaggerspun. I actually taught the class how to read charts last week because the prof had never done that before. :-/

(I know you may not have meant it that way, but I certainly need work in this area)
