Too many needle sizes?

I recently made a really lovely pair of fingerless gloves, and I'm in the process of writing up the pattern, and wanted to get some opinions on a technical issue ( Read more... )

I would say especially in a not-beginner pattern, I would rather have the 3 needles sizes and get the nicest result possible. Personally, since I already have those sizes it definitely wouldn't make any difference.

Definitely include it all. Me, if I saw that, I would probably just fiddle around and use 6's throughout, but I'm lazy. It's definitely in the best interests of the pattern to include all three.

exactly -- I'd like to see both.

My problem is my gauge is frequently different -- you might want to include that the gauge swatch should be made with all 3 needle sizes, switching?

If I saw a pattern like that I'd probably just play with math and increases and decreases until it was right. So having alternate directions would be nice too.

I was just going to say that, about the gauge. I'd be sure to have a gauge for all three, because I always have to substitute sizes.

Beyond that I say go for it. Three sizes wouldn't really bother me.

Oh, yeah, definitely list all the gauges. I'm a huge knitter, so I'd end up having to go down to 5's, 4's and 2's, most likely...

For your pattern I currently only have 3s and 5s, but as oh_eudora said, I can just go needle shopping. :P

So no, I don't see it causing a problem for most people.

I'd appreciate the attention to detail and then I'd promptly ignore it *g*.

(I really don't like how a tubular cast on looks, so I tend to toss them out in favor of something more to my taste)

I'm a newbie to knitting and I've done a few things that required needle changes and it didn't bother me at all. Granted these patterns were not very intricate but I think the finished piece should have attention to detail and if that involves needle changes then do it.
