I just wanted to say that you have a really great comic (no matter where it might be hosted). I also wanted to check if you minded fans of your comic reading your lj. I don't want to be rude or anything, but um, yeah, I'm an lj junkie and your comic seems so truthful and honest that I'd bet your lj would be a really intriguing one to read. Anyway, whatever your feelings are, thank you for making such an awesome comic. I just started reading it a while ago (when it was newsboxed) and definately made my friend meg read it saying "look, look! it's if you lived with me and chris!" because so much of it just rang dead on. It's really generous of you to do this for people.
I'm intent on making a foray into the publishing industry myself, though as a more traditional small-press literature publisher. In the design interviews I've been doing with several folks already in the industry, they all had one thing to say over and over again:
It's easy to find a good book. It's a heck of a lot harder to find an author who, after getting that book published, can promise you another one. I think you're right - that people don't often plan beyond the exposure, and they certainly don't think ahead to 'what comes after'.
Hmm. Out of curiosity, I think I'll hit the LOC archives this afternoon and just see - I wonder how many authors only publish a single book, and how many go on to publish more than one, in any venue?
