Back from the trip of a lifetime... but this isn't about that. It's about fandom.

Well, I'd like to ramble on about my wonderful trip, but dyrim_rings hasn't had a chance to load pictures, and I'd like it illustrated. Suffice it to say... lots of fun, lots of walking, and a lovely time with my sister. More to follow, once the pictures are up.

What I would like to talk about is fandom.

Sometimes it feels like we're fighting over the same boyfriend... )

europe, fandom

I missed you! I'm glad you're back and that you got a holiday, not only from RL but from fandom. I'm with you - the flame hasn't gone out, it's just changed its intensity. I shall keep my fingers crossed too that the Wank Fairy doesn't visit us again soon.

Thanks, lovely, for running the ship so well in the interim. It is easy to steer, yes? ;)

I had no worries, since we have such a great team. And it was lovely to get a break.

Where do you want me to upload the pictures? I have them on my computer, but I haven't done anything with them yet. When I decide where to put them, I'll let you know.

But only if you post the ones from the last night in Florence.

Just kidding. I deleted those, right?

God, I hope so!

I don't care where you post, as long as you send a link. No_funk seems to like flick_r. Why not there?

Awesome post. I ♥ fandom, too, and my relationship as well has changed. I'm not exactly sure when I read my first fic, but I registered at Fiction Alley in July 2003, so it'll be four and a half years in January for that. :D

At first, there was reading and occasional forum-posting, now, there is some reading and a lot of keeping up with the "real" [well, brick and mortar and flesh and bone] lives of the friends I've met here on LJ, or met at OWL and friended here, or met at cons and friended here. Oh, and betaing. ♥ me some betaing. :P

For us, they are our adopted children, and that's why we use terms like "fanon Harry": they are the possibilities that were cast aside when Jo molded her "canon Harry," and like any left behind child, they are the dearer to us because of that. Brilliant. I love AU so much. :P

I love your last paragraph, too--I've been with my sweetie for six years now, and--yeah. Great expression of grown-up sentiment. ;D

Thanks, sweets. I'm so pleased to find so much agreement, because it's been hard to pull back a bit. Still, I find myself much happier as a result. I totally agree about the cons, and people we've met; it makes fandom that much richer to know the people involved.
