This was neat, and I love your grounding in reality before heading into vampire. This feels like it would make a fantastic book plot, too!

I usually turn up my nose at vampire tales, because usually "vampire" is shorthand for a Byronic hero and it is clear that it is the authors cop out for not wanting to deal with "human" darkness.

But your vampire isn't a cop out. Well done.

I have a bit of an issue with the de-vamping of vampires. If I were to ever do full length vampire fiction, mine would be dark and nasty with real bite. None of this humanity nonsense!
