I just watched Hitchcock's Rope. I have no memory of why I put it on my Netflix list besides hearing a long time ago (probably in the Truffaut/Hitchcock book) that it's meant to look like one continuos take. I really like early Godard films. They're pretty pretentious and often contain long scenes of meaningless 'philosophic' rambling, but they also have this unique energy. Like a film was happening across the street and Godard rushed to pick up his camera and capture it. A joy to be filming, to be creating. And a certain sense of 'I could do that ( Read more... )
