Happy Birthday!

Thank you. They really are. Well, most of them. I don't know what it is that turns parental fuckedupness and all those issues into cuddly kissy love, Spongebob-type, once we're a generation removed, but I'm glad it works.

Very true, I often wonder if my mom could ever make that switch. Even though I still see the fuckedupness in my grandma, I mean...the woman is neurotic and judgemental as hell, but something about the outpouring of unconditional love, Sunday lunches, and "Grandma's house" just masks all of that in a cloud of senior citizen adorableness that can do no wrong. I'm glad you have such wonderful memories of your grandma, it's great to still celebrate her birthday.

We've celebrated the day for so long that it's imprinted in me and the memories would come back every year anyway so I might as well make the best of it. :)

Hehe. She was quite the free spirit. Up to a point. She was really religious, but she was never the moralistic type and knew how to have fun even though she had a very hard life.
